GZA: The GZA, AKA the Genius, rose from poverty to fame as the founding member of seminal hip-hop group The Wu-Tang Clan in the early 90s.

Like his fellow Wu-tang members, The GZA (real name Gary Grice) grew up on the impoverished streets of New York's Staten Island.

The culture and events they experienced living on the harsh New York streets would eventually serve as the basis to forming their signature Wu-tang sound: a hardened combination of ghetto imagery and literary wit.

Following the immense success of the Wu-tang Clan's debut album, Enter The Wu-tang, the GZA along with the group's other members each signed seperate solo record deals, allowing each member to release music both individually aswell as remain a collective group.

The GZA released his first post Wu-tang solo album Liquid Swords in 1995 to universal acclaim, an album that to this day is considered one of hip-hop's finest moments.

Currently the GZA enjoys contined success as both a solo performer as well as remaning a vital member of the Wu-Tang Clan.

FEATUREYou and What Army band interview

Telford-based electro-rock band You and What Army describe themselves as "having unforgivingly catchy trance synths that soar over tectonic-plate-shatteringly heavy guitar riffs, dancefloor-destroyingly awesome basslines and lowrider-cruisingly phat beats, with the narrated apocalypse rapped, sung and screamed wildly into the fray." That's one massive claim, so BritEvents' Lucy Middleton catches up with the four piece band to find out more about their epic sound.
