Sacred & Secular Classics to Stir Senses

Sussex Voiceworks will present a fantastic feast of popular Choral Classics as part of a Recital Series at the end of May featuring popular works by Gibbons, Bach, Mozart, Handel, Karl Jenkins, and Bob Chilcott. Music lovers are warmly invited to join them for an unforgettable journey through over 500 years of popular Classics a number of which feature in ClassicFM’s Hall of Fame,

FREE recitals take places at The Sacred Heart Church, Royal Wootton Bassett at 4pm on Saturday 28 May*; Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff at 1pm on Sunday 29 May; Well Cathedral at 1.05pm on Monday 30 May*.

Previous appearances have included Cathedrals of Winchester; Norwich; Bristol; Worcester; and Lincoln. Other high profile venues have included Bath Abbey; Great Malvern Priory; St Paul’s Covent Garden; The University Church of Great St Mary’s, Cambridge; and Christchurch Priory.

PETER FARRANT (Conductor) began his professional career in 1993, promoting new and unusual works alongside mainstream repertoire to great acclaim, at prestigious venues both in the UK and overseas. His London appearances have included The Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, St John’s Smith Square, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Paul’s Covent Garden, and St James' Piccadilly. Peter’s energy and vision have transformed choirs, and enabled individuals of all ages and abilities to discover the enjoyment and benefits that can be gained from experiencing live performance.

KATHRYN SARGENT (Soprano) studied singing with Marjorie Thomas and David Johnston and holds diplomas from the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music. She has appeared numerous times as soloist in oratorio and concert works including Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony, Strauss’ Four Last Songs, Berlioz’s Les Nuits D’Eté, Verdi’s Requiem and Britten’s War Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, Rutter’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Solemn Vespers. Her appearances include Europe, Russia, Australia, South Africa, Israel and China.

SUSSEX VOICEWORKS (Choir) was founded in 1974 and currently has approximately 100 members. Since the appointment of Director Peter Farrant in 1995 the choir has continued to flourish and expand with the creation of exciting new opportunities including Development Workshops, Festivals, Tours, Recordings, Education Initiatives and Partnerships. Professional soloists and instrumentalists are regularly engaged. The choir, a Registered Charity and affiliate of ‘Making Music’, has performed extensively both in the United Kingdom and abroad, touring France, Holland, Malta and Belgium.
