New Year Eve’s celebrations at Wetherden Village Hall, organised by Stow Hundreds, with Fishclaw, Dan the Hat, Justin Appleyard and more.
The evening will start at 8.30pm and finish after revellers have welcomed in the New Year. This year’s entertainment includes:
Fishclaw
Fishclaw are an instrumental group based in Colchester, originally formed in the summer of 2013 as a trio, comprised of accordion, fiddle/mandolin, guitar and electronics. They have since expanded the band to a seven piece adding double bass, whistle/flute, bodhrán and full drum kit and for New Years Eve will also have a caller for a ceilidh.
Fishclaw’s music is a mix of up-tempo beats and melodies with traditional folk influences which started out as reworking traditional Irish, Scottish and Eastern European music to include influences such as alternative folk, ambient electronica, post rock and system music.
They have gigged regularly ever since and steadily built a loyal fan base in the area. 2017 has seen them perform at Latitude, Brentwood Festival and were the closing band at Swanfest. Tom Robinson described them as “Folk music with teeth” when he played them on his BBC Radio 6 Music programme.
Dan the Hat
A master of improvisation, comedy and juggling skills his performances are for adults and children and everyone in between!
His work has taken him all over the world at plenty of International Street theatre festivals such as the European Busking Festival in Germany, Lugano Busking Festival in Switzerland and this year at the Pflaster- Spektakel (International busking Festival) in Austria. Not to mention countless years in the muddied fields of Glastonbury Festival, Beautiful Days Festival and closer to home Weird and Wonderful Wood at Haughley Park.
Justin Appleyard
A multi-skilled entertainer who juggles, unicycles and does balloon modelling will be starting the night.
He used to run Circus Ricardo and more recently has performed in Circus Petite, which toured Suffolk earlier this year.
There will also be a piñata which, will as usual, cause a riot with the kids.
