Surrey Hills Challenge Sports

The Surrey Hills Challenge comes to the Greensand Way on 24th September 2017. What’s your distance?

Four running and walking events will take place on the beautiful landscape of the Surrey Hills, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on Sunday 24th September 2017 raising funds for the Community Foundation for Surrey and the Surrey Hills Trust Fund.

The family events of ‘The Five’ and ‘The Ten’ will take place at Hurtwood; a well-known area for walkers and runners. Starting at 10:00, ‘The Five’ is a 5km course which covers wide open tracks onto footpaths and woodland trails. ‘The Ten’ is two laps of the 5km course and for families, walkers and runners to challenge themselves just that little bit more.

The Ultra and Half participants will join the 5km loop, creating a supportive and fun atmosphere as all four events descend onto Hurtwood.

Our competitive routes for the fittest walkers and runners are The Ultra, 60km starting at 06:00, and The Half, 21km starting at 09:00. The Ultra route starts in the picturesque town of Haslemere and follows the Greensand Way. Participants will scale Gibbet Hill, Wormley Hill, Hydon’s Ball, Hascombe Hill, Pitch Hill, Holmbury Hill, Leith Hill and finally Bury Hill.

The Half joins the Ultra at the Duke of Kent School with their first challenge coming in the form of scaling Holmbury Hill. From here they head towards Leith Hill, the highest point along the Greensand Way at 954ft, with impressive views before finishing in Dorking.

The event will raise funds for the Community Foundation for Surrey, an independent charitable trust established to inspire local giving for local need. The Community Foundation established the Surrey Hills Trust Fund to exclusively help local projects and community groups within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The Surrey Hills Challenge will take place on Sunday 24th September 2017. Registration fees per person for ‘The Ultra’ (60km) is £80, ‘The Half’(21km) £35, ‘The Ten’ (10km) £25 and ‘The Five’ (5km) £15. A booking fee of £2 per registration is applicable.
