ExLibris Masked Charity Booksale Literature and Books

Thousands of rescued books sold cheaply to raise funds for local charities. Our 14th, and probably last, Masked Charity Booksale.

14th annual booksale in aid of two local charities:

HOST Nottingham (www.hostnottingham.org.uk)
support asylum seekers and refugees in Nottingham. They provide temporary accommodation in host families’ spare rooms and practical support. They advocate for a just asylum system.

We R Here (www.werhere.org.uk)
Many people experience significant traumatic life events, such as domestic violence, grief, loss, and bereavement. We R Here brings support to the whole family; their objective is to be here when support is needed. Their support and therapeutic services including counselling are free to access

Our rescued books include: new, genre, unusual, modern and classic fiction; almost every non-fiction subject under the sun from art to zoology; books on leisure interests such as gardening, crafts, & cookery; hardbacks and paperbacks; scarce, collectable, vintage, and antique books; lots of children’s books; and the odd really weird book that you wouldn’t believe could, or maybe should, exist.
We always have low prices (starting at 10p), to make books accessible to everyone. Even our collectable or scarce books are priced more cheaply than online.

Children may ride the ExLibris Express (children's train in the back garden). The event is family-friendly. Visitors are invited to bring a tin of vegetarian food, to be donated to Netherfield food bank.

Buses 24, 25, 44 (get off at the Co-op) or 100 (get off Ousebridge Drive). Bicycles can be stored in our back garden. There is plenty of onstreet parking (we hope people will try not to park right outside our direct neighbours for long), or a car park at the top of Ranmoor Road. We take cash only; there is a cashpoint at the Co-op at the top of the road. We are partly wheelchair accessible, and will help wherever possible. Nearby we also have a Castle Rock pub (food served), a wool shop, an art/frame shop and several other useful local shops and takeaways. A visit to the ExLibris Booksale could also be happily combined with a stroll in Gedling Country Park.

There were no booksales in 2020 or 2021 because of the covid situation. We would still want to protect our own and everyone else’s safety, so have made a few changes.
FFP2 or FFP3 masks will be required throughout the sale for those aged 12+. (We may have some for sale for people who forget. If you are medically exempt, please contact us beforehand.) This is a Masked Booksale, after all.
If you can do a lateral flow test before visiting, thank you.
Hand sanitiser will be available. We will ensure good ventilation. Some areas may have restrictions on the number of people in them at a time.
If you can come at a less busy time, please do (e.g. 5-6pm; Mondays; the final weekend). If you are immunocompromised or have any other concerns, please ask us to book you in on a separate day from everyone else.

Since we started doing this about 16 years ago, we've taken and given nearly £25,000 to various charities and good causes, mostly local. The 2019 ExLibris Masked Charity Booksale raised £3620, split between Sharewear Clothing Scheme, Morton Hall Detainees Visitors Group, and Zephyr’s nurturing support for bereaved families.

After this many booksales and other stalls, ExLibris folk have got older and more tired, and would appreciate having their house back. This is likely to be the last ever ExLibris Masked Charity Booksale, unless we realise that we love it so much, we can’t stop. Or unless people (you?) step forward to take over. But visit this year, while you can.
