Battle Museum of Local History: The main exhibition item in the Battle Museum is the only remaining battleaxe head from the Battle of Hastings, and also a reproduction of The Bayeux Tapestry. Originally identified by the London Museum as a woodmans axe of the pattern in use from the second half of the 9th until the first half of the 13th century.
The Bayeux Tapestry, an embroidered strip of linen cloth measuring 70.34 metres, was probably produced in Canterbury on the orders of Bishop Odo, Williams half-brother, in 1077. The original is displayed in the town of Bayeux.
