Museum of Antiquities: The Museum of Antiquities is the principal museum of archaeology in north east England. Its visitors are those who wish to know more about the history of the region, especially Hadrians Wall and the Roman frontier. It has a renowned collection of artefacts, models and archives relating to the Wall, and a full-scale reconstruction of the Temple to Mithras at Carrawburgh.
It is situated in the University precinct, through the arches at the top of Kings Walk, just off Barras Bridge, and close to the Haymarket Metro Station.
The Museum houses the following specialist archives:
- Hadrians Wall Photographic Archive
- Aerial Photographic Collection of North East Britain
- Pearce Collection of Photographs of Bastles and Peels
- Archives of specific sites or archaeological topics relating to the north of England
The museum also has a photographic library of objects in its collection which can be ordered by academics, the media or the general public.
