The Chieftains: An Irish rock band formed in 1962 getting their name from the book "Death of a chieftain" by Irish author John Montague.

Apart from their own music they influenced many bands and performed with them both in UK and America.

Van Morrisons Have I told you lately with the Chieftains was a big hit.They were also critically acclaimed for their version of "Women of Ireland" which contributed to Leonard Rosennman's osacr winning score to Stanley Kubricks "Barry Lyndon" They were much appreciated by the Rock fraternity and even influenced Jerry Garcia and Grisman in some of their renditions of Irish songs. The Chieftains performed with a host of bands including the Rolling Stones, the who and other popular well known bands or=f that era and were more popular with the critics.

They have won 6 Grammy's and were also given a lifetime achievement by BBC radio UK. Their concentration on the rich Irish tunes have made Irish music popular to a much wider audience worldwide.
