Charlecote House and Park

Charlecote Park, Charlecote, Warwickshire, CV359ER

Charlecote House and Park: Superb Tudor house and landscaped deer park. The home of the Lucy family for over 700 years, the mellow brickwork and great chimneys of Charlecote seem to sum up the very essence of Tudor England.

There are strong associations with both Queen Elizabeth and Shakespeare, who knew the house well he is alleged to have been caught poaching the estate deer. The rich early Victorian interior contains many important objects from Beckford's Fonthill Abbey and, outside, the balustraded formal garden opens onto a fine deer park landscaped by 'Capability' Brown.

Visitors can see a video film of life at Charlecote Park in the Victorian period.

Building: Ramped entrance. 5 wheelchairs. Ground floor accessible. Stairs to other floors. Seating available. Photograph album. WCs: Adapted WC inside entrance to ladies at main block, by restaurant and by entrance to Victorian Kitchen. Grounds: Accessible route. Shop: 3 steps to entrance with handrail. Alternative entrance, please ask.
