Trevor Goose And His Dark Night Of Lights: IS IT A GIG? IS IT A PANTO?

IS IT A MISJUDGED DANISH CABARET?

Well it's all three, and this December, pioneering site-specific theatre company Talking Birds break the habit of a decade by performing in an actual theatre with a spiky Christmas Show designed for those who like their festive entertainment skewed and a little bit heartbreaking.

Originally performed in a converted coal vault in Coventry's canal basin, Trevor Goose and His Dark Night of Lights attempts to tell the bleak, yet moving, tale of The Little Match Girl, but internal difficulties with the band - Hans Christian and the Andersons as well as with a Danish tourism officer and a missing celebrity mean the evening soon turns into the painfully amusing spectacle of a cabaret coming face to face with it's own dark failings. Thankfully, and possibly consequently, the music is divine and boasts a line up of top-flight musicians led by composer Derek Nisbet - who rip off a series of exhilarating numbers in an attempt to get through the evening on reckless emotion alone.

Some shows like to be seen as an antidote to Christmas shows, but who wants an antidote when the venom is this much pleasure?

Trevor Goose and His Dark Night of Lights is the perfect show for group parties, particularly Christmas office parties.
