Guys Cliffe House Overnight Ghost Hunt

Guys Cliffe House, Saturday, 17 March 2012 - Sunday, 18 March 2012

Guys Cliffe House Overnight Ghost Hunt: This location is for the brave of heart. It's foreboding atmosphere in the caves is one sure to test even the harshest sceptic.

History

The history dates back to Roman times when they used to use the site for worship of 'Mithras' the sun god, but one of its first historical mentions is in the 6th century when the Bishop of Warwick founded a small Oratory(public speaking) dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene facing east upon the place where the present chapel of Guys Cliffe now stands. Over the

next 1000 years the local gentry including Earls and King Henry V noticed the importance of the chapel and even wanted to rebuild it when it was in disrepair. When Henry VIII came into power he organised the Dissolution of the monasteries and the monks were asked to leave the chapel, so the site passed into private ownership. In 1751 Samuel Greathead, a West Indian merchant and member of parliament for Coventry purchased the site and built the mansion which stands now today.

In 1947 there was a lack of interest in the site and it was sold to private investors with the intention of converting it into a hotel, but the plans was never carried out and the house fell into disrepair. In 1955 the house was purchased by Aldwyn Porter, the chapel was leased out of Freemasons. The roof had fallen in by 1966. 1992 the site was used for filming The Adventure of Sherlock Homes (The Last Vampyre) a fire scene got out of control and really damaged the building leading to an insurance claim. English heritage gave the building a grade II listed status.

Paranormal Activity

On moonlit and windless nights you may hear the sounds of bells. This is said that what you hear is the phantom precession of the King's lovers Piers Gaveston's execution. There a reported sightings of a woman who haunts the avenues and garden. When after WWII the site had become neglected and overgrown with foliage, there was many witnesses to paranormal activity with feelings of foreboding, to drops in temperature. There is a black figure that has been seen and is felt as an 'evil' presence and affects women who visit. The chapel is said to be very haunted. Footsteps and

scraping is heard. There is a cave situated at Guys House and the chamber

has been a paranormal hot-spot. It is completely pitch black and really has this terrifying atmosphere about it. Lights have been seen, and negative energies felt.

Being on edge at this particular location is felt, so you can see that its not for the faint hearted. Dare you come along and join us for the night?
