Aston Hall

Aston Hall, Birmingham, West Midlands, B66JD

Aston Hall: One of the last great homes to be built in the flamboyant Jacobean style, the mansion which was built between 1618 and 1635 for Sir Thomas Holte. Aston Hall has been displayed as a country house museum since the 1940s. It houses the major part of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallerys furniture collections, a large proportion of the Museums pre-19th century British paintings and important textiles, silver and other furnishings.

The Halls later history is shown in a number of 19th century rooms and furnishing schemes. These illustrate the antiquarian interests and tastes of a successful Victorian businessman (James Watt Junior) and his aspirations to recreate an antique house.
