Want to give your presentations, training or writing more impact?
Learn how to think like a cartoonist - and discover how visual thinking can breathe new life into the way you communicate.
A workshop for people who have to speak, teach, write and present as part of the work they do.
Why cartooning?
A cartoon can express the essence of a complex idea in a few meaningful lines. In this workshop, cartoonist and writer Martin Shovel will teach you how to draw cartoons that will help you get your ideas across simply and powerfully.
But our workshop is about much more than just cartooning – it's about getting to the heart of good communication. By the end of the day you'll be able to communicate your ideas and messages in cartoon form, and you'll see drawing in a whole new way. Because cartoon thinking can help you become a better speaker and writer, too.
Outline of the day:
In the morning we explore what drawing really is, and why everyone can do it. By the end of the session you will be able to draw your own people and animals, expressions, objects and contexts, and you will have the know-how to develop your cartooning as far as you want to take it.
The afternoon session is about 'thinking like a cartoonist' and applying your new drawing skills in your work. You will develop cartoon ideas that will be immediately useful to you, and you'll practise using cartooning to communicate your ideas in the group. The group is kept small to guarantee everyone individual attention and constructive feedback.
Do I need to be able to draw to do the course?
No, previous drawing experience isn't necessary - just come along with an open mind and you'll soon be cartooning happily.
"As interesting and rewarding as it is challenging. This was by far the most enjoyable – and useful – professional course I have ever attended. Oh, and don't think it's not for you because you can't draw, you can, you just don't know it yet."
(Bob Maddams, journalist/copywriter)
This workshop can also be commissioned as an in-house event for teams and organisations. Contact us at CreativityWorks.net to find out more.
