Join Manuscript Pen Company at The Pen Museum to celebrate the art of calligraphy, with free workshops, museum tours and much more

Join Manuscript Pen Company to celebrate the art of calligraphy and hand lettering in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Hosting the event, the Pen Museum welcomes Manuscript and a whole host of world renowned creative artists to celebrate calligraphy and hand lettering trends.

Explore the Pen Museum and learn about the many pen companies of Birmingham and the history of the trade starting from quills and dip pens to the modern day fountain pen. Step back in time and try your hand at creating your very own steel pen nib using traditional machinery!

Whether you are an expert, a beginner who’s just getting started or simply an admirer of beautiful writing, come and join Manuscript and your favourite artists including Modern Calligrapher Joyce Lee of Artsynibs, Lettering artist phenomenon James L Lewis, Arabic Calligraphy School, Ottoman Calligraphy, Founder of Calligraphy Arts, Jane Lappage and many more at The Pen Museum from 11am – 4pm.

Workshop Agenda:
12.30pm – 1.15pm – Modern Calligraphy for Beginners with Artsynibs
Are you inspired by the art of Modern Calligraphy and creating beautiful writing? Then join Joyce Lee of Artsynibs for this 45 minute workshop to get you started. Start with the key basics like sitting correctly and assembling your pen through to creating beautiful strokes, letters and words. By the end of the workshop you will have acquired all the skills to get started on a calligraphy journey of your own!

The Artsynibs story began when Joyce Lee left her job as an English teacher in Singapore and moved to the United Kingdom. Relocation spelt new experiences and challenges, hence beginning a journey of learning to adapt to a different environment.

Inspired by her love for calligraphy and the creative scene in Manchester, Artsynibs was conceived. To realise the dream of bringing back the beautiful art of writing, Artsynibs relies on traditions to navigate through the twenty-first century.

Join James Lewis as he takes you through the basics of hand lettering exploring Sans Serif and Serif typography based on a calligraphy skeleton James uses himself!

Say Something Special

As part of World Calligraphy Day, Manuscript Pen Company is partnering with Birmingham Children’s Hospital to launch the ‘Say Something Special’ campaign. This will initially be a part of World Calligraphy Day but will hopefully branch into something much bigger!

The campaign encourages celebrities, journalists and business people to write a special letter to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. These can be sent to Say Something Special c/o Small Man Media, 2nd Floor, 6 Waterloo Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 4BL.

Each individual letter will then be forwarded on to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital alongside some Manuscript product for the hospital to use for their art classes and play sessions.

If enough letters are sent, these will be on display during World Calligraphy Day at the Pen Museum.

More information is available by emailing dan@smallmanmedia.com
