Roll Over Beethoven is a fun, high-energy new musical that tells the story of how dreary, post-war England was transformed forever by rock.
Bringing a blaze of neon colour to the monochrome streets of Blighty, this thrilling new music became a clarion call for hordes of youngsters, newly christened as ‘teenagers’, and helped draw the battle lines between teens and their parents that remain to this day.
With a storyline that playfully echoes one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, we follow Johnny Hamlet as he returns from National Service to attend his father’s funeral. But Johnny’s suspicions are aroused by his Mum and his Uncle Claud – was there more to his father’s death than he thought? How far will Johnny go to find the truth and settle the score?
Written and directed by Bob Eaton, who recently scored a smash-hit at the Belgrade with the 2-Tone musical Three Minute Heroes, Roll Over Beethoven features an incredible, original Rock ‘n’ Roll score that is sure to raise your spirits and raise the roof!
