Emma Johnson's Clarinet Goes to Town Emma Johnson (clarinet), John Lenehan (piano), Paul Clarvis (percussion)
In her cool new programme accompanied by John Lenehan on piano and Paul Clarvis on percussion she will explore some of the elements - ragtime, cakewalks and spirituals - that fused together an explosion of popular culture in the mid-twentieth century, reaching an apotheosis in the King of Swing, Benny Goodman.‘The great quality that Emma Johnson brings to all her recordings, in contrast to so many artists of whatever eminence, is a devil-may-care spontaneity.’
Gramophone
'...definitive; Johnson's gorgeous tone evoking the reputed delicate, warm and unaffected sound of the sonatas' dedicatee. A landmark disc.'
The Guardian
Described by The Times as "Britain's favourite clarinettist", Emma Johnson is one of the few clarinet players to have made a career as a soloist. Since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year at the age of seventeen she has gone on to become one of the UK's biggest selling classical artists and is known for the diverse range of the repertoire she plays. She was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 1996. She is joined by John Lenehan whose performances and recordings have acclaimed throughout the world and internationally renowned percussionist Paul Clarvis.
