Maritime Museum

Maritime Museum, Hull, Yorkshire, GU13DX

Maritime Museum: Formerly the Town Docks offices, this impressive building now houses a fine collection of paintings, artifacts and models. The story behind Hulls rich and colourful maritime history unfolds in a series of themed displays, including whales and whaling, ships and shipping, fishing and the notorious river Humber itself.

The Whaling Gallery is dominated by the huge skeleton of a Right Whale and there are fascinating examples of nautical art including an important collection of scrimshaw.

The opulent Courtroom, with its frieze of cupids, scagliola columns and heraldic devices hosts temporary exhibitions, so there is always something new to see.
