Wilberforce House Museum

Wilberforce House, Hull, Yorkshire, HU11NQ

Wilberforce House Museum: Birthplace of William Wilberforce, known worldwide for his fight to abolish slavery, this 17th Century building retains many interesting features, such as the oak panelled banqueting room. For over 200 years the house was the property of 3 important Hull merchant families, the Listers and the Thorntons, as well as the Wilberforces.

It has been a museum since 1906. Each year, on the nearest weekday to 29th July, a ceremony is held in the City of Kingston upon Hull, in memory of the death of Wilberforce.
