Yorkshire Clocks and their Makers

Wilberforce House, Hull, Yorkshire, HU11NQ

Yorkshire Clocks and their Makers: New permanent exhibition exploring Hull and East Yorkshires clockmaking trade from the 18th and 19th centuries, including longcase clocks from Hull, Beverley, Bridlington and Patrington. Many of the clocks are restored to full working order.

14 longcase clocks from the brass and painted dial periods are displayed alongside bracket clocks by local makers. Also featured are pieces from the pocket watch and watch movement collection, all made or retailed locally.

Enjoy the ticking of the clocks, with examples restored to full working order, and discover how a pendulum works on a grandfather clock.

The collection was acquired with assistance from the V&A Purchase Grant Fund.

The gallery is situated on the 1st floor of Wilberforce House Museum, which is inaccessible to people with mobility problems. A feasibility study to improve access is underway.
