Join our expert ornithologist Michael Flowers for this guided walk through the unspoiled Yorkshire Wolds vale of Millington, then return to enjoy paintings by acclaimed artist Robert E Fuller at his gallery in Thixendale.Millington Pastures encompasses ancient woodland; meadow pasture and picture perfect ponds. As you walk, Michael Flowers’ expert eye will look for kingfishers and water rails. You may even glimpse roe deer or barn owls.
Share this experienced naturalist's wealth of knowledge as you learn tips on how to identify bird species such as yellow hammers, redstarts or bullfinches as you tour this stunning landscape. He will search out for birds that have left northern Europe to spend their winter here, including fieldfares and redstarts.
About Michael Flowers: A highly knowledgable naturalist, Michael has been running twice daily birdwatching walks mainly in East Yorkshire since 2004. His classes visit woodland, farmland, estuaries, lakes, reservoirs and coastal habitats to observe the different wildlife in those varied locations. Clients visit 30 venues in a year and may expect to see more than 100 species per 10-week term.
Where to meet: Please meet at Millington Wood Car Park.
Level: This walk will involve a steep climb and requires a medium level of fitness.
What to wear: Please wear appropriate, sturdy footwear and clothing to suit the weather - windproof jacket, fleece etc. It can get very cold on the Wolds at this time of year so please don't underestimate how many layers you will need. Bring a hat and gloves too! A flask of something hot would go down well too!
Also bring binoculars if you have them.
