Norton Conyers Hall: Visited by Charlotte Bronte in 1839; a family legend gave her the idea for the mad Mrs Rochester in 'Jane Eyre'. The house is an original of 'Thornfield Hall'. The building is late medieval with Stuart and Georgian additions. Pictures, furniture, china and costumes reflect 381 years of occupation by the same family. Other visitors were Charles I and James II. An 18thC walled garden is 100yds from the house, with orangery and herbaceous borders. Fruit grown, please check beforehand on picking availability. Small sales area specialising in unusual hardy plants. Garden: admission free. .
