An annual conference that celebrates the radio feature – past, present and future
We’ll be talking about and hearing features and documentaries from the early days of Local Radio; examining the Asian Radio scene in the UK and looking at features made about the city of Sheffield with producers Sarah Blunt from the BBC Natural History Unit, Clare Jenkins and Frances Byrne.Professor Sean Street, the founder of the Charles Parker Day, reflects on the importance of sound in making us who we are as humans; and producer John Leonard and musicians John Tams and Barry Coope will be demonstrating the making of their original BBC Radio 2 Radio Ballad ‘The Song of Steel’ – reconstructing part of the programme before your very eyes and ears.
We will also celebrate the work of student feature makers through the UK and present Gold, Silver and Bronze Prizes to the winners of the Charles Parker Prize 2017.
