Funk Drunk Live Music & Concerts

We’re not big, infact we’re pretty damn miniscule in the grand scheme of things but why should that matter?

We take risks and we enjoy it, besides, what really makes a good party? The music, the people, the sound, the environment and of course the rum. So we’re here to mix it up a bit to bring you an artist you’ve (probably) never heard of (who you definitely should have heard of!) into an intimate, bespoke and fully decorated 2 room venue in a little corner of our fine city.

So, for our second disco shindig on March 18th it’s a pleasure to announce we’ll be bringing Central Executives’ Ben Shenton A.K.A Mind Fair (Golf Channel/Let’s Play House/International Feel/Jolly Jams) alongside our mighty residents and friends to Hagglers Corner, playing a 7 hour education in: Jazz, Funk, Soul, Disco, House, Hip-Hop & Broken Beat.

If you aren’t familiar with Hagglers Corner - you should be! Upstairs is a lovely room with wooden floors, high ceilings, exposed wood beams and a bar with buckets of character (and beer). Outside there’s a lovely, warm and cosy courtyard with a firepit where Deap and Mila K will be doing a live mural - re-doing the whole wall(!!!) and we’ll also have Moon Unit's Tea Emporium joining us, serving speciality & herbal teas, boozey cocktails and sludge alongside loads of baked tasty vegan and non vegan treats!

It’s also with great honour that we have been allowed to be the first people to use the NEW ROOM but we’re not going to say too much about that for now….

Expect fascinating decor, live art from the Mardy Arts crew, original & live mind melting visual projections from Sheffield's premier vizualiser Zaron Mizmeras, local craft ales, bottled beers, speciality teas, local food and lots and lots of RUM alongside some of the best and most diverse music going in the Steel City.

Why stick to one genre?

Ben Shenton - Central Executives / Mind Fair / M.E.B (LET'S PLAY HOUSE/Golf Channel Recordings/ International Feel Recordings /Jolly Jams)

Ben first caught our eye after being shown the Central Executives LP on the mighty Golf Channel Recordings entitled A Walk In The Park by our good pal and damn fine resident DJ - Danny Wootton (Huddle)

Piccadilly Records described the album as: “ a situationist song-sheet and sonic chaperone to guide us through the back street escapism these troubled times demand. From gently over-driven punk funkin' mascara stained hymns, to house that's been thoroughly smudged to the edges of its live music incorporating limits.” We couldn’t have put it any better ourselves...

A month or so after hearing A walk in the park, Ben then made the journey up north to record the Huddle Hot Mix Radio Show with our residents Dan J & Mike O'Mara and we were all dead impressed. Then we all danced the night away at the Thrillhouse Sheffield X Pretty Pretty Good night with Hunne at Hope Works and had a reyt laugh!

Under a wide array of aliases both as an individual and with his partner in crime Dean Meredith, they’ve released on labels such as Golf Channel, Let’s Play House, International Feel and Parkway Records, as well as their own imprint Rogue Cat Sounds and they also run their own night / media outlet called Rotation. We’ve also just been told by Ben about a new mysterious project on Jolly Jams so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Over the summer they curated The Rotation Garden Party - a one day/night party at the 17th century Sugnull Walled Garden, powered by their very own fully custom Rotation Audiophile Soundsystem - a bespoke custom 1995 patented Klipschorn Speaker setup which they’ve recently been asked to use for a new monthly residency/install at Kosmonaut in Manchester.

These guys are on fire, the amount of aliases they produce under is thoroughly ridiculous so we’re really excited to have Ben over. He’s a real sound bloke, a proper audiophile and has one damn big record collection with an insanely vast knowledge of just about everything. Basically the mans got proper skills and we can’t wait to have him down to show you what he’s made of.

Father Dan J will be reunited with Mother Mike O’Mara for the first time in 2 months after Mike moved back to Manchester in November. It’ll be the first time they’ve seen each other since so expect some downright disco debauchery alongside fully thuggin’ house all with an overdose of the usual ridiculous antics! These guys are legends, with over 40 years of experience between them behind the decks they blow everyone out of the water. If you aren’t familiar with them, you should be. ‘Nuff said!

Thrillhouse head honcho, close friend and FDR resident Samir shows no sign of slowing down - the man’s been on fire with his productions recently as well as grabbing a radio show residency on Radar Radio London with our mate Al Zanders aka Lodger. So we’re looking forward to having him down for a few hours of jamz in both rooms.

Sheffield Scratch Master Flash, this guy’s an absolute badman on the one’s and two’s and he doesn’t get recognised anywhere near the amount he should. He’s got some serious talent, a massive collection and knows Hip-Hop like the back of his hand - after the his performance at our first night we can't wait to have him down again for some scratchy funky goodness.

Katzenjammer24 (Funk Drunk Records / No Policy)

Funk Drunk Records founder and one of The Harley’s No Policy residents, although more well known for his photography - he’s been honing in his skills on the decks, soaking in music like sponge at Huddle and FDR HQ and collecting lots of vinyl. Expect anything.

Physical Tickets: In order to encourage the people of Sheffield to interact with local independent businesses more, I have decided to hand make 150 bespoke and completely individual physical tickets - they will cost £8 (£1 will be dontated Roundabout, Sheffield the very next day and £1 will be kept by the independent business for their support).
