KVU Singers with William Dutton & Richard Uttley Live Music & Concerts

KVU Singers have promoted concerts to showcase talents of local young musicians and we are delighted to bring bring back one of the first.

As well as singing he also played the violin and it is with this instrument that he has made his name.
Born in Leeds in 1995, William began taking regular violin lessons when he was 4 and in 2008 gained a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey. Whilst here he regularly performed both as a soloist and in chamber musical recitals and he led the viola section of the Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra in the Menuhin festival in Gstaad, Switzerland in 2012, playing on Lord Menuhin’s Testore viola. He has worked alongside artists such as Heinrich Schiff, Jeremy Menuhin, Valeriy Sokolov and Charlie Siem, playing in venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, The Mansion House and The Royal Festival Hall.
In April 2013 he was a guest soloist at the European String Teachers’ Association conference and he was invited back to perform again the following year.
In April 1914 William won the Strings Final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition.
William is now an undergraduate student at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne. He currently plays on a 1731 Cremonese violin on loan to him from Jonathan Sparey and previously owned by the late Michael Rabin.
For this concert he will be playing pieces by Saraste, Schubert, Kreisler, Tchaikovsky and Elgar and accompanied on the piano by Richard Uttley.
Born in Bradford, Richard graduated with a Double First in Music at Clare College, Cambridge in 2008. He then studied piano at the Guildhall School, one of the world’s leading Conservatoires. His awards include 1st prizes in the Haverhill and British Contemporary Piano competitions.
Richard has been recognised for his ‘musical intelligence and pristine facility’ (International Record Review), ‘amazing decisiveness … tumultuous performance’ (Ivan Hewett, The Daily Telegraph), and featured as a Rising Star in BBC Music Magazine. He has given solo recitals or played concertos in the UK’s major halls, and his playing is frequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
He has released 3 CDs, appeared at Cheltenham, Beaminster and Manchester International Festivals, given solo recitals in Bridgewater Hall and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and made recordings and a film for Sky Arts with BBC New Generation Artist Mark Simpson. His collaboration with Callum Smart (violin) included a recording for Orchid Classics and recitals in Wigmore Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin and the Auditorium du Louvre.
Richard teaches piano at City University and academic studies at Guildhall School.
KVU Singers will also perform a selection of songs including some to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
