19 JUN

Elgar The Dream Of Gerontius: York Musical Society will be joined by the Philharmonischer Chor of Mnster and its conductor Martin Henning for a performance of this inspiring English oratorio. Elgar wrote his setting of Cardinal Newmans poem The Dream of Gerontius as a commission for the Birmingham Festival in 1900 and it has since come to be regarded and loved as one of his greatest works. On completing it, Elgar wrote: This is the best of me ... this, if anything of mine, is worth your memory. Sung in the splendour of York Minster with outstanding soloists, this concert should be a memorable and moving experience.
