Join us on a month-long exploration of some of the world's finest and most famous wine producing regions, all found in our Channel neighbour
The sheer diversity of styles available, along with the much vaunted concepts such as 'terrior' and slightly baffling wine labelling, mean that many of us feel intimidated or unsure when picking up a bottle of French wineBut nonetheless, us Brits continue our historic love/hate affair with the Gaillic nation and their winesThe prestige of Chablis, Meursault, St Emilion, Chateauneuf du Pape and a whole host of other French wines, means that this is the land which perhaps, more than any other, is associated with so-called 'wine snobs'Well, here at Yorkshire Wine School we are not interested in wine snobbery- we are only interested in discovering great tasting wines and learning how to identify them for ourselvesSo our tour of France will aim to leave aside the technical jargon by setting the wines in the context of what they mean for the flavours in the glass: teaching you to identify what kind of wine you enjoy and then giving you the confidence to set about picking them for yourselfThis is a practical guide to French wines, for people who are keen to learn about wine in a straightforward, no-nonsense way: by tasting it for themselves!
Week 1: Bordeaux (StEmilion, Margaux, Sauternes and others)
Week 2: Loire and Alsace (Muscadet, Sancerre, Pinot Gris and others)
Week 3: Burgundy (Chablis, Pouilly Fuisse, Beaujolais and others)
Week 4: Rhone (Crozes Hermitage, Gigondas, Chateauneuf du Pape and others)
Each night will consist of a tutored tasting of at least 6 wines, some small nibbles to accompany the wine, full tasting notes and an electronic presentation on the region of the evening
Please Note: there is an additional charge per evening of £10 (as well as the £50 course fee), still excellent value- less than £22.50 each night
