A Show featuring spring-flowering plants combined with a plant fair with nurseries from England, Scotland and Wales.
This year's Show will be enhanced by two professional displays, with Ashwood Nurseries of Kingswinford featuring their beautiful Hepaticas, and the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh showing a selection of alpine plants and bulbsThese displays will be in the main hall along with close to 150 classes of plants in a competitive exhibition from growers of both the Alpine Garden Society and the Scottish Rock Garden ClubThe range of plants is extensive and will include shrubs, woodlanders, bulbs as well as alpines, with those partricularly suited to being grown in the open garden clearly identifiedThe show provides the chance to see the plants close up and appreciate their beauty and formAlso to be appreciated is the expertise and dedication of the exhibitors who have grown the prize plants, with the awards handed out at 3.15 prior to the end of the dayThe whole dispay lifts the spirits as the growing season gets underway
There are two further areas providing the opportunity to purchase plants from 8 nurseries, with both unusual and rare spring plants suitable for front of border, trough or rock gardenThe friendly and knowledgeable nursery owners will happily discuss the plants that suit your conditions, and for those who know what they like and want, there is the option to order in advance from their websites and receive delivery at the Show
The Show is organised by the North Lancashire Group of the Alpine Garden Society, on behalf of both the AGS and the Scottish Rock Garden ClubAll three groups will have information available for the visitor who really likes what they see at the Show, and wishes to learn moreThe N.Lancs Group meets in Lancaster, with eight meetings from September through to April, and welcomes new membersThe meetings are based around an illustrated talk, which could be about cultivation, or a particular group of plants, or a special place where wild flowers are found, When possible, members bring plants either to sell to each other, or simply to display
The catering at the Show is provided by the school, with the proceeds helping the school funds
