The Design Museum is one of London's most inspiring attractions. Concerned as much with the future as the past, a programme of critically acclaimed exhibitions captures the excitement of design's evolution, ingenuity and inspiration through the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
One of the world's most exciting designers, Marc Newson has stamped his sleekly futuristic style on bars, bicycles, a Ford concept car, Qantas airline seats and the Design Museum toilets. Born in Australia in 1963, Newson studied jewellery and sculpture in Sydney, before working as a product designer in Tokyo, Paris and London. This landmark exhibition, designed by Marc Newson, will trace his career from his earliest projects to Kelvin 40, his fantasy airplane.
Kelvin 40 was commissioned by Fondation Cartier, Paris.
The Marc Newson exhibition at the Design Museum is sponsored by BHP Billiton and supported by Rolls-Royce.
What is good design? Everyone has an opinion. Is it about looks? Functionality? Innovation? Sustainability? Inclusivity? Or whether it makes us laugh. The Design Museum has invited fourteen people, each from a different part of the world and with a particular perspective on design, to choose ten examples of what they think is good design. The catch is that nothing can cost more than £10. See what Foreign Office Architects; the designers Ron Arad and Hella Jongerius; J. Mays, head of design at Ford; humanitarian designer Cameron Sinclair and Murray Moss, the owner of New York's chicest design store, choose for Under A Tenner.
You can hear the most inspiring figures in design speaking about their work in Design Museum Talks. And you can learn more about the history of modern design and architecture on our evening and weekend courses. Booking details are below. Design Museum supporters are entitled to priority booking and discounted tickets for all our talks and courses. To become a supporter, email membership@designmuseum.org or call 020 7940 8763.
Every child visiting the Design Museum is given a free Design Action Pack to help them enjoy - and learn from - their visit. As well as treasure trails of exhibits inside the museum, the packs include creativity exercises and a 'Spot The Building' game featuring the architectural landmarks - such as Richard Rogers' futuristic Lloyds Building and Thomas Telford's pioneering St Katharine's Dock - which are visible from our riverfront terrace.
