A workshop exploring the new wave of folk horror and how to write great stories in the subgenre today.
MODERN FOLK HORROR: THE NEW REVIVAL Workshop for Nottingham Writers Studio With Alex Davis Tuesday 17th October, 6:30pm-8:30pm Tickets £12-£15 from https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/modern-folk-horror-the-new-revival-tickets-715240241817While Folk Horror enjoyed its first heyday in the 70s and 80s, the genre subsequently largely disappeared from public view - until now that is. But why is Folk Horror suddenly finding itself once more in the limelight, and how can you write stories in the sub-genre that feel fresh and modern? In this workshop we'll take a look at folk horror both new and old to chart a path to its place in 2023, examining some famous examples and some of the reasons behind the resurgence, as well as closing with a writing exercise. If you can't make it, don't worry! The workshop will be recorded via Zoom and sent via a Dropbox link, with other learning materials and goodies, to ALL ticket holders after the session. About the tutor: Alex Davis a writer, tutor, lecturer and events organiser based in Derby. He has been teaching creative writing in a range of capacities for 15 years, and has been a lecturer at the University of Derby for the last five years. He is currently working towards his PHD and working extensively on a series of online and in-person writing events, including the third running of the UK Ghost Story Festival in February 2023. Access: You will be sent a link giving you access to the Zoom via Eventbrite prior to the event. Please contact admin@nottinghamwritersstudio.co.uk if you have any questions.
