Then join us for our two-part series on Modern Chinese Literature, where we'll be unpacking the major literary movements that took place in China from 1911 to the present. Along the way, we'll get to know a few of the most prominent writers in modern Chinese history and read excerpts from their work.
In the first part of our series, we're going to be focusing on literature from 1911 to 1976, with a special emphasis on literature from the Republican Period. This was a hugely formative period in modern Chinese literature, since it represented the moment when vernacular fiction became an acceptable way for young literati to express themselves.
Throughout the seminar, alongside learning about some Chinese writers you may never have heard of, you'll also have the opportunity to share your thoughts and provide some book recommendations as part of our two interactive discussion sessions.
