Join us on a virtual journey to the Great Wall as our travel expert discusses their experiences of hiking along this historic landmark. We pride ourselves on the extensive knowledge and cultural understanding of our travel experts, who will accompany you on your tour. On the first and last weekend of every month, one of our travel experts will be offering a free 1-hour presentation on a certain aspect of traveling in China.
For this presentation, we'll be discussing one of the most iconic and internationally recognisable landmarks in China, the Great Wall. The history of this breathtaking structure dates all the way back to the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), when Emperor Qin Shi Huang first unified China. Most sections of the Great Wall you see today, however, were the result of renovations that took place during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Hiking the Great Wall is no easy feat, and it's important to know about the distinct characteristics of the section you plan to hike before you arrive. To this end, we'll be taking an in-depth look at most of the sections closest to Beijing, which are the ones with greatest accessibility. This does not necessarily mean, however, that they are the busiest! Sections such as Badaling may be heaving with tourist crowds, but places like Panlongshan and Jiankou have a certain ruined beauty that attracts only the hardiest of hikers!
While you might not be able to see it from space or even see it in person at the moment, why not enjoy some beautiful photos with us and let your imagination transport you to the Great Wall?
