Barford St Martin is inviting the public to come and explore some of the exciting, exotic and wild private garden that have been carefully nurtured by residents in preparation for a very special 'Open Gardens' day on Saturday 7th June, from 10.00am to 3.00pm
A local charity - the Alabare Development Centre in Barford, which provides training for vulnerable adults with learning difficulties is adding an extra dimension to the day by running a very special 'Makers Market', where visitors can browse and buy crafts produced by talented local artistsThe centre also has its own productive garden and there is no doubt that a wide array of delicious veg will be on sale
The beautiful village of Barford St Martin, which nestles on the River Nadder has a rich and ancient history, which is reflected by many of its gardens old and newThere is something for everyone and will no doubt intrigue and delight visitorsWho does not like to have a good nose around someone else's garden to compare notes?
Barford gardens vary from the large and wildlife-friendly to quirky and beautifully designedThe gardens highlight a huge range of different styles highlighting gorgeous flower borders, raised beds, productive vegetable patches and water featuresVisitors will be able to pick up topical tips and hints on planting schemes or helpful ideas that will encourage those all-important pollinators that are so beneficial to many flowering plantsThere is no doubt that the gardens opening their gates on the day in various parts of the village will delight the senses and visitors will be guaranteed to have a warm welcome from garden owners
Visitors will also be able to enjoy delicious home-made cakes, cream teas and refreshments at the Alabare Development Centre in Dairy RoadHere visitors can relax and enjoy beautiful views, fresh vegetables, plants, and crafts all of which will be for sale from the charity
Open Gardens is on Saturday 7th June from 10.00am to 3.00pm., Entry to the gardens is £5 per family (cash only).Tickets and a village map of the gardens can be purchased from the Barford Inn car park on the day
The event is being organised by the Barford St Martin Community Fund, which is raising funds to enhance amenities in the village, including a new wonderfully planted conservation area, and a newly installed playground for young children
