A breathtaking night of music from The Fulltone Orchestra With Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man
On Remembrance Sunday, this will be a very poignant concert.Following in the footsteps of the many major names who have graced the City Hall stage, Fulltone brings one of the biggest names in the classical world – Sir Karl Jenkins – to Salisbury with a breathtaking afternoon concert featuring over 150 musicians and singers.
This choral masterpiece, commissioned by the Royal Armouries to mark the new millennium, is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo conflict and stands as a deeply moving reflection on war and peace. From its haunting opening call to arms to the serene finale Better Is Peace, Jenkins’ music is both emotionally charged and universally resonant — an experience that stays with you long after the final note.
The performance opens with a spectacular first half showcasing some of the most stirring and cinematic orchestral works ever written, including William Walton’s Crown Imperial and Spitfire Prelude and Fugue, Verdi’s rousing Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and Anvil Chorus, Elgar’s deeply moving Nimrod from the Enigma Variations, John Williams’ poignant Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan, and the triumphant Battle Hymn of the Republic by William Steffe.
The concert will be conducted by Anthony Brown, Musical Director and Founder of The Fulltone Orchestra, whose flair for large-scale productions has made Fulltone one of the most dynamic orchestral ensembles in the South West.
“Karl Jenkins’ music is absolutely fantastic — deeply emotional, beautifully written and instantly accessible,” says Anthony. “The Armed Man is one of those works that everyone should experience at least once in their life. To perform it on this scale, in a venue like Salisbury City Hall, is going to be something truly special.”
Soloists will be drawn from Cantiamo, the stunning ensemble also conducted by Anthony Brown, featuring Naomi Ibbetson, Teresa Isaacson, Jemma Brown, Nina Thomas, Tina Jones and Dani Fuke.
The Fulltone Orchestra, founded in 2017, brings together exceptional musicians, performing everything from awe-inspiring classical works to reimagined orchestral versions of contemporary music. The orchestra will also return to Salisbury in 2026 for a night of musicals in Salisbury Cathedral on a big scale.
