LIFERS DIY in association with 13 Artists presents: EAGULLS + PROTOMARTYR + LIFE
EAGULLSBeginning as a swaggering, punk-inspired outfit, Leeds' Eagulls moved rapidly through the Leeds music scene, winning plaudits and fans with their unapologetic, chaotic brand of guitar-driven music, and in early 2011 they released their 7" single "Council Flat Blues" through Not Even Records. They continued their rapid ascent with shows supporting the likes of Iceage and Hot Snakes in 2012 and eventually signed with Partisan Records. “Eagulls”, which the band recorded with producer Matt Leeds, arrived in March 2014. For their next album, Eagulls focused on their melodic side and took inspiration from the Cocteau Twins and the Cure. Recorded in a converted church, Ullages arrived in May 2016.
PROTOMARTYR
Detroit post-punk quartet Protomartyr formed in 2010, slowly bubbling up out of a few bands in a tightly knit music scene. Protomartyr played around Detroit and toured regionally, gaining attention on the strengths of two early 7" singles and riveting live performances. Singles Dreads 85 84 and Colpi Proibiti were both released in 2012, followed by debut album No Passion All Technique later in the year. The album quickly sold out of its first pressing and continued to reach new ears in subsequent pressings as the band toured more and got more press, signing to Hardly Art for the release of 2014's Under Color of Official Right, a more exploratory sophomore album. In October 2015 Protomartyr returned with a third studio album, The Agent Intellect, followed by an international tour in support of the release.
LIFE
With blood, sweat and snappy lyrics that put popular culture under the microscope, LIFE is a project fuelled by passion; a passion for music, for enterprise, and for their hometown. Their cutting take on punk-rock isn’t the product of focus groups or boardrooms, but the sound of four workers from Hull, kicking against the brain dead, the ego lead and the morally corrupt, and creating something with real heart, mind and soul.
