Tamworth Castle Castles
Tamworth Castle is a typical Norman motte and bailey castle set in the south-west corner of what was a Saxon burh, located in order to dominate the approach over two rivers from the south. Explore over 900 years of history in this magnificent castle, which once belonged to the Royal Champion of England. Its curtain walls and shell keep date from early 1100s. Behind the ancient fortress walls, Tudor and Jacobean buildings tower over the Medieval Banqueting Hall.
Inside, delightfully restored period rooms give a glimpse into the life and times of past occupants.
See for yourself the changes made to turn a forbidding fortress into a welcoming family home.
Tamworth Castle is situated in the centre of Tamworth overlooking the Castle Pleasure Grounds with its floral terracing, bandstand, childrens play areas, river walks, tennis courts, crazy golf and Pavilion cafe - an ideal place to spend your day.
