Anderton Boat Lift Museums
The Anderton Boat Lift was designed and built by Edwin Clark in 1875, and is the worlds first boat lift, that speeded up the movement of cargoes carrying coal, salt and lay between the Weaver Navigation and the Trent and Mersey Canal
the modern and attractive operations centre houses a fascinating interactive exhibition explaining the history of the lift and its unique place in waterway history
For younger visitors there is a play area on site and for the young at heart you can lose yourself in a special maze constructed from the old counterweights that used to hang from the lift
