The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, more commonly known as the Order of St. John. One of five mutually recognized orders of St. John, it is an order of the British crown. Reaffirmed in Britain in the mid-19th century, the Order traces its origins back 900 years to the Knights Hospitaller from whom St. John today derives its inspiration and maxims - for the Faith and in the service of Mankind. Today, the Order of St. John is an international body with some 30,000 members worldwide. The Order encompasses the foundations of the St. John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem and St. John Ambulance.
