The Museum of Smuggling History was opened in 1973 with the help of the local council. The study of 700 years of smuggling methods, and the gathering of the necessary artefacts has been the lifelong work of Ron Dowling RNVR, after being in contraband control in Aden at the beginning of World War II.

Nowhere else in the world can such a collection of smuggling artefacts be seen. In the museum you can see the many ingenious ways of smuggling, the most unlikely things smuggled, life sized models of personalities from the smuggling past, and maybe even catch a glimpse of their very own ghost.

Open 1st April to end of September. Special rates and questionnaires for school parties. .
