In the heart of the County Town St Chad's is a real gem. It dates from the 12th Century and is full of atmosphere and mysterious carvings - beaked heads, green men and an inscription that may reveal its founder.

The church hosts exhibitions and concerts as well as being home to TIMEWALK, a computerised sound and light program that recounts the history of the church and town.

Sympathetically restored by the Victorians, the architect Gilbert Scott, was inspired to design its wonderful west end and Hardmans of Birmingham created the window in the side chapel. An example of their work from the twenty first century depicting St Chad is also over the west door.

Knowledgeable stewards will guide you around if you wish.
