The museum is overlooked by the lighthouse, built in 1874, but standing on the site of the very first lighthouse to be built by Trinity House in 1609. The main emphasis is on the fishing fleet, from the days of sail, through the later generation of steam herring drifters and on to the modern diesel trawlers. Among the exhibits is a reconstruction of the aft cabin of a steam drifter.
