Stomp is a percussion theatre company that employs day to day tools and objects, as well as the body itself, to create various sounds that complement modern stage movement.
The tools used for the show include brooms, chalk, lids, drumsticks, tall bin, liters of water, short bins, bananas, poles, sand, and boxes of matches. This theatre production is categorized under "physical theatre" which is an approach to story telling where drama is achieved through several means other than verbal communication. This group was established back in 1991 by artistic visionaries namely Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. This duo hails from Brighton, United Kingdom, where they first dabbled in all types of percussive performances. The original show, produced by Cresswell and McNicholas, was staged in the same year of the group's creation at the Bloomsbury theatre. The show's original cast includes Luke Cresswell, Fraser Morrison, Nick Dwyer, Sarah Eddy, Theseus Gerard, Carl Smith, and David Olrod. The production bagged various awards including "Critic's Choice" from the Guardian, and "Best of the Fringe" from the Daily Express. The Stomp crew eventually travelled overseas to cities like Hong Kong, Sydney, Dublin, Athens, New York, Melbourne, and Barcelona.Presently, this unique and experimental theatre is playing at the Ambassador's theatre in London. The current crew is comprised of John Angeles, Dustin Elsea, Alan Asuncion, Marivaldo dos Santos, Brad Holland, Ryan Johnson, Lisa Latouche, Stephanie Marshall, Jason Mills, Fritzlyn Hector, Fiona Wilkes, Nicholas Young, Keith Middleton, and Reggie Talley. This show resorts to rhythm as a universal language. Through sounds achieved from the most unusual of sources and movements inspired by various physical quirks, this performance has been called fun, fresh, and fast.
