The Woburn Abbey Triathlon returns with the brand new WoBurner Half Iron distance.
For those making the step up from an Olympic distance triathlon, this will be an extra 400 demanding metres, and they are likely to feel every one of them. Once this challenging swim is done it's a short dash to transition, located on the lawn directly in front of the grand mansion house, which is a stunning backdrop to perform a quick change before heading out on the bike course. The route for the 85km bike section starts off in the grounds of Woburn Abbey before heading out onto the open roads, and through some quintessential British countryside. The route will sweep through Steppingley, Tingrith and Eversholt, where you might catch a spot of cricket being played on the traditional village green. One of the more testing sections is a 4km stretch on Long Lane, which is deceivingly undulating.
After completing two testing disciplines the final 21.2km run will be tough, but the course is thankfully flat and fast. From transition it heads North West around the edge of the magnificent Woburn Park, before following a lush tree-lined lane towards the village. After a quick switch back it's a chance to run alongside Lower Drakeloe Pond, where you might get a glimpse of Wallabies and Deer who are located by Woburn Safari Park. After completing this half marathon distance run, the 108km WoBurner climaxes spectacularly inside the Woburn Abbey grounds, with crowds, a medal and glory waiting as you cross the finish line.
