Prepare to be dazzled!As the British music industry exploded from Abbey Road Studios in the late 6os, The Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper, and a young Paul McCartney was influenced by A Teenage Opera “I think it’s the first record I heard, and we heard, and we thought ‘that’s interesting’…that was really the one that was the biggest influence, and then lots of people started doing it.” The grand vision for A Teenage Opera never made it to production on stage, and it was to became one of the great mysteries of musical theatre. Now, 50 years on, YMT brings it to the stage for the first time.
This brand-new musical from YMT is based on the first rock concept album by Mark Wirtz and Keith West, with new book, lyrics and concept development by Pete Gallagher, and additional new music by Joe Louis Robinson and Michael Bradley. The show will feature original classic songs, including 1967 hits singles Grocer Jack, Weatherman and Sam. This epic, musical spectacular is directed by Avenue Q star Julie Atherton. Hold onto your seats for this magical merry-do-round, next stop is 1967.
