A candlelit talk in Burns House, Dumfries, sees Gerard Carruthers discuss Robert Burns’s use of the winter calendar. Starting with Halloween and moving to Hogmanay and beyond, the customs and landscapes of wintertide in the bard’s work are considered. The supernatural, religion, and the condition of humanity are all intertwined in the poet’s contemplation of the darkest season and, indeed, light it up. This show is delivered in Partnership with the University of Glasgow and Dumfries & Galloway Council
