Tessitoura presents a fresh take on Rossini’s sparkling comedy La Cenerentola. Sung in English, it's Cinderella ... but not as you know it!
The lonely Prince Ramiro resorts to a reality TV show "in Search of the One" to find true love. His show dominates all the newspaper headlines, and thousands of girls clamour to become the nation's newest sweetheart, but unfortunately for Prince Ramiro none of them are quite what he had in mind. So a clever ruse is hatched to find a woman who might love him for something other than his crown jewels, and this leads to an identity switch with his bodyguard Dandini.Don Magnifico, a man of great ambition, wishes one of his two daughters to be the winner of the Prince’s heart but has taught them only of greed and spite. As Magnifico butters up Dandini in his effort to climb the social ladder Ramiro passes by unnoticed in the background. We are then taken on a whirlwind journey comprising a ball, a bracelet and burgeoning young love, all accompanied by one of Rossini's most exquisite and complex scores.
This fully staged version is sung in English and accompanied by an acclaimed ensemble of chamber musicians.
Karen Stuart, stage director for Tessitoura, brings Rossini's classic tale to the world of reality TV, Hello! magazine and present day 'celebrities', providing a totally believable and highly accessible show for today's audiences, without losing any of the author/composer's fabulous words/music. A classic tale with a twist.
The performance starts in the Medieval Barn at 6pm. Visitors are welcome to picnic tin the grounds beforehand (gates open at 4pm). Refreshments will be available to purchase during the interval. Limited free parking is availed on site.
