In 1918, some women in the UK gained the right to vote; in 1919 nurse activists achieved their goal of state registration. Nurse activist Beatrice Kent wrote that, had nurses “been armed with that powerful weapon – the vote – they would have been victorious long ago” in getting the nursing registration act through Parliament.
