In this illustrated lecture, Grenville Hancox will outline the centrality of singing in a balanced and caring society. By reference through practical engagement and research findings, he will argue that singing in groups offers a cost effective and enjoyable means of improving the health of our nation too often ignored, overlooked or marginalised.
About Grenville Hancox
Grenville Hancox, professor emeritus and honorary professor of music and well being, has for the past thirty years practiced, performed and advocated engagement in singing as a means of improving health and well being.
Innovative research and publications from 2000 with Professor Stephen Clift led to the establishment of a research centre and stimulated much engagement in the area of arts and health. Since leaving Canterbury Christ Church University he has founded Canterbury Cantata Trust a charity with the strap line, Caring through Singing and most recently developed his work with people with Parkinson's through the international organisation, Sing to Beat Parkinson's. Grenville continues to be active both as a choral director and instrumental performer, and lives both in Folkestone and France.
