Nominated for four awards in the prestigious theatre award giving body- Olivier Awards- Singin' in the Rain has been hailed as one of the best feel-good theatre productions in recent years. The story is based on the 1952 film with the same name. Stage adaptation is written by acclaimed theatre scribes Adolph Green and Betty Comden while songs are rendered by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown. The plot in the musical version of Singin' in the Rain closely follows the aforementioned classic film. The story is set during silent film's declining years in Hollywood. It revolves around the protagonist - silent film star Don Lockwood - who is utterly unsatisfied with the untalented Lina Lamont who happens to be his leading lady. In real life, Don is smitten by a Kathy Selden; an aspiring celebrity and actress. When the vindictive Lina Lamont finds out about Don and Kathy's budding romance, she does everything to ruin its progress. This inventive plotline, which combines the deterioration of Hollywood's silent film era with the prospect t of romance in an oftentimes beguiling and misleading tinsel town, has become an enduring classic. The stage adaptation features some renowned theatre artists including Adam Cooper, Scarlett Strallen, Daniel Crossley, and Katherine Kingsley. The show is suited for the general public. A romantic-comedy that juxtaposes love with ambition, fame and artistry, the story typically appeals to a wide range of demographics. Also it has been hailed by numerous critics as one of the most effective light acts in theatre history. The show is set to make you smirk, laugh, cry, contemplate, dream, and of course, love. Back in 2011, the show had won the Outstanding Musical Production from the Olivier Awards. It was also nominated for two Tony Awards back in 1986.
