Delve into a lesser-known period of Chinese history as we explore some of the key historical moments associated with the Republic of China.
If it's your first time joining us, then this seminar is completely FREE!In this week's seminar, we're going to be taking a closer look at one of the lesser-known and arguably most underrated periods in Chinese history, known as the Republic of China (1912-1949). Although this time period only lasted for 37 years, it had an immeasurable impact on the development of modern China.
Key historical figures from the period, such as Sun Yat-sen and Yuan Shikai, were instrumental in facilitating the end of over 2,000 years of imperial rule in China. While the period is known for its tumultuous factionalism and warlordism, the liberal environment allowed new political philosophies to thrive, including one that would end up shaping China as we know it today.
In the first half of the seminar, we'll be discussing the events that led up to the establishment of the Republic of China, with a specific focus on the life of Sun Yat-sen. The second half of the seminar will outline the downfall of the Republic, with particular reference to the actions of a political leader named Chiang Kai-shek.
If you're a history buff or if you're fascinated by the evolution of political thinking in China, then join us for an evening of learning and lively discussion.
