Now featuring a refreshed line-up, quintessentially English 8-piece Rock-Folk band returned to prominence in 2011.
Home Service is once again back in business.Home Service originally formed from the creative nucleus of the Albion Band line-up that produced the classic ‘Rise Up Like the Sun’ album, singer and songwriter John Tams feeling the need to explore more contemporary themes in his writing and its musical interpretation.
During its relatively short life in the mid-eighties, Home Service produced three albums (all still available from Fledg’ling Records), headlined at major festivals including Cambridge, Cropredy and Dranouter. They toured extensively and provided music for the National Theatre’s highly acclaimed production of ‘The Mysteries‘, which was filmed for television and reprised for the Millennium Celebrations.
After touring the new live album made from the newly discovered 1986 cassettes for 4 years, Home Service has enjoyed a reshuffle – John Kirkpatrick has now replaced Tams as lead singer adding his wonderful accordion playing to the band’s rich textures.
With a new bass player and trombonist, and keyboard player Steve King spending half his time on tenor sax as part of the now 4-piece brass section, they are enjoying a new lease of life. An album of all-new material has been released under the title ‘A New Ground‘, which expresses succinctly the ethos of the reborn Home Service.
With major festivals planned for 2018 watch out and don’t miss this mighty reformation of a truly classic band!
